Have you ever noticed that “neurodivergent Christian community” is not a “thing” in our churches? It can be.
Youth groups bring youth together. Women’s Bible studies bring women together. Men’s prayer meetings bring men together. Worship teams bring musicians together. Are these ministries based on “labels”? No. These are ministries based on shared experiences.
At least one third of the church-at-large could be missing if we are not effectively equipped to open church doors to neurodivergents. Neurodivergents enjoy each others’ company. I have seen it. I have experienced it! I cannot imagine anything more important for this one third of the population to be able to find each other at church.
We can catapult this urgent conversation to the forefront. We neurodivergents can be invited out of isolation and into biblical Christian community, as God made us - uniquely and intentionally. In my manuscript, The Neurodivergent Christian: A Guide to Life, I open up critical conversations with neurodivergent readers. I explore many key aspects of life with neurodivergents from a biblical worldview and neurodivergent lived experience - my own and those of others who have shared their stories. I propose several insights for neurotypical readers and churches as well, to open their hearts and doors to these missing and needed “body parts” of the Body of Christ.©
